Naturally, My Dear Hubster

I've been learning a lot about myself lately. Finally, I'm taking the time to put together the puzzle pieces of my habits, hobbies, and preferences. As I put them together, I find each discovery fascinating and new. Of course, I'm excited to share them with my hubster. He's not surprised by my discoveries at all! Apparently, he figured me out a long time ago. In his eyes, I'm totally lagging.

Well, one of my new realizations is that I only like doing things that come to me naturally. Luckily, I've been a natural at a lot of things that mattered. For instance, I've always been a pretty good student. Yes, I worked hard, but I never really struggled. Cooking also falls under this category. I prefer rummaging through the fridge and making my own recipe than following someone else's recipe.

I love photography, but I have yet to really figure out how to use my SLR properly. I don't play with the aperture settings or any of that fancy jazz. Basically, I use it as a fancy Nancy point and shoot. I also don't take the time to process my photos in Photoshop, because I haven't made the effort to figure that out either.

Relying solely on my natural abilities is finally catching up with me. I'm having to learn what it really means to have to pick myself up after unsuccessful attempts. A lesson definitely worth learning. Learning to be patient with myself has become one of the best gifts from these growing pains. Here's a conversation that my hubster and I had about all of these lovely realizations.

Me: So, I figured out that I only like to do things that I'm naturally good at.
Hubster: (sighs) I know.
Me: (smiles)
Hubster: What's the fun in that?
Me: Seriously? Ummm...you never fail. You're successful at everything that you do.
Hubster: But, what about having someone teach you something? Then, you figure out how to do it.  That feeling of figuring it out on your own.
Me: That means I would probably fail before I figured it out.
Hubster: (sighs in defeat)

Teachers, Pizzas, & Mustaches

This weekend, we were able to make our teacher reunion happen. Woot! I must say that it isn't easy coordinating a time to meet up with eight other people, especially when no one lives in the same city. I'm just so happy that almost everyone was able to make it. It was a fun filled night. We made individual pizza masterpieces. While waiting for our pizzas, we played Find It: At the Beach and Barrel of Monkeys. After dinner, we ate delicious rainbow cupcakes and played several rounds of Apples to Apples while wearing our fabulous mustaches. Who knew that felt on a stick would be so much fun? Before bed, we found out who was a genius. Many laughs and full tummies make for good memories.

*The mustaches on a stick were inspired by the goodies at MaroDesigns.

"We Speak with Our Eyes "

Over the summer, I watched Planet B-Boy: Breakdancing Has Evolved during my documentary binge, but I never got around to blogging about it. Scandalous! It was one of my favorite documentaries. I love this documentary for so many reasons that I'm not quite sure where to begin. What's the heart of the movie? The creative individuals who are passionate about their art. I love that! Each team has such intriguing personalities and back stories. I really connected with the stories of the Japanese and South Korean teams. It was fascinating how they included the perspective of the b-boy families to make it really personal. At times, the commentary becomes poetic, which is a welcomed surprise. Of course, the dancing is amazing. It's an oldie but goodie. I highly recommend it.

When?

Source

I just started tutoring my tutoring kiddo again. I can't believe she's in third grade already! I heart my tutoring kiddo. She always manages to make me laugh even after a long day of errands or of teaching. She also says the sweetest things sometimes.

Kiddo: When are you going to have babies?
Me: Hmmm...I don't know. Sometime, soon. Maybe.
Kiddo: When you have a baby, can I be its friend?
Me: Of course! (smiles)
Kiddo: How old will I be when you have a kid?
Me: Not sure. Maybe, it'll be three years from now.
Kiddo: I'll be 12.

Three years feels so far away and so close all at the same time.
