A to Z: Mini Post

We ran away to the desert for a mini vacay. It's so funny how easy it is to become familiar with a landscape and a road. Everything is tan in Tucson. The ground. The buildings. The overbearing hills. Cacti take the place of trees. Everything is gritty or poky.

My favorite part of the trip? Losing track of time. I didn't need to be anywhere at any particular time. All I needed to do was be with him--in that moment at that place. What a joy.

Catch Up: Orange

The other day, the kiddos had to answer this prompt, "If you could be an animal with camouflage, what animal would you be? Why?" One kiddo responded that he would like to be a tiger. He said that you can't see tigers when the sun sets because everything is orange. I just thought that was incredibly poetic. Not accurate but how could I style his creativity?

Last summer, my friend Mark kept posting on FB how many times he watched Despicable Me. All I could think of was, "Wow! It must be so good!" We finally watched it this weekend. It was absolutely adorable. Pharrell did a great job with the theme song, which makes it a bit more grown-up. The minions totally steal each scene. The plot is sweet without being over-the-top-cavity-inducing sweet.

FOBtastic!

I'm not big on huge birthday parties. My birthday usually passes by rather quietly. Last year, my hubster and I came up with a brilliant FOB themed birthday party idea. Life overwhelmed us in October, so we celebrated my belated birthday this past weekend. We ate at our favorite Chinese restaurants and gave out red envelopes stuffed with my favorite Asian goodies as party favors. We even encouraged our friends to show up in their best FOB attire.

The best part of the evening was just being with my friends. I adore them. They are all so funny and sweet. I love how we can always pick up right where we left off even though we haven't seen each other in months.

Not Enough

Me: When I think about all the trips that I'll be giving up for the kiddos, I wonder if it's worth it. Yes. It is.
Hubster: We're going away in a week on a trip then we're going to the Caribbean. That's still not enough for you. Now, you're thinking about teaching in Peru.
Me: (laughs)

Life's A Beach

The weather here has been ridiculous these last couple of days. This taste of summer is almost like torture. You know it's not going to last. All I want to do is go outside and savor every minute of the warm breezes and sunshine. Instead, I've had to do some extra work for work. I did manage to squeeze a half hour of beach time.

I was introduced to this photo series through Photojojo. Their caption for the photo is "A devastating and beautiful series of Detroit's abandoned buildings." Those two adjectives describe the series perfectly. As I flipped through the photos, all I could imagine was how mesmerizing Detroit must have been.

Land Shark

My hubster asked if I wanted to go on a Land Shark tour over the weekend. I took him up on his offer because we got our tickets for a steal through his company. Usually, it would be $50 for both of us instead the tickets only cost $15. We quickly learned why it was such a steal. The tour wasn't the regular tour. We didn't get a fun historical tour of the city. They just drove us around the harbor. We were totally bummed. At least, I got some nice shots.

Books, Books, & More Books

This is my favorite bookstore in town. Why? It's named after my favorite medieval author. It's mascot is a cat. It has the most unique book selection. It has the most enchanting children section.

Getting Our Mac On

I know everyone's been raving about these kinds of macaroons forever. I didn't have one until today because I thought it was just a bunch of hype. My hubster even thought they were going to be plain janes. Boy, were we wrong. They are heavenly. I adore the chewy center and subtle pistachio flavor. The chewiness reminds us of Napoleon hats. Good thing, I got two. We were not about to share.

I couldn't sleep last night. Luckily, I stumbled across Exit Through the Gift Shop. I loved it as much as I loved Planet B-Boy. I heart Banksy and street art. It really shows that Banksy's cleverness extends beyond the street art that he's best known for.

My hubster added the TLC Radio onto our Pandora favorites list. Who are some similar artists? Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child, Aaliyah and J.Lo. My middle school BFF and I used to listen to them all the time. Hello, sudden rush of memories of teeny bop magazines, Simon Rex, and one too many trips to the mall.
