Day 1: 5 Ways to Win My Heart
1. Listen. Listen when I share my life with you. Listen to the sounds of everything around us. Listen to my heart when it speaks to you.
2. Be ambitious. When you're ambitious, it inspires me to be ambitious. It makes me a better person, which I'm so thankful for.
3. Make me smile. The way you say things, the way you look at me and the way you show me that you're thinking of me can make me smile.
4. Share your life with me. If I'm sharing my life with you, I hope you can share your life with me.
5. Love good food. All of my favorite memories since I've left to go to college and after college have involved food.

My Name

So, I've been tormenting myself over this post. Trying to get it just right. I don't know how I got so hung up on it, but I did. Rewriting it over and over. Therefore, over thinking it over and over. I think this is my 4th or 5th go at it. Yes, it's been so many that I've lost count for the sake of my sanity. Why talk about my name? Well, the really really big kids had to write about their names last week. It was an activity inspired by Sandra Cisneros' House on Mango Street. I wanted a challenge. I've been so closed off lately, and I needed to open myself up once again. Here's the last go at it:
It's a love letter from my parents, a shadow, and a clunky pair of shoes that I needed to grow into. When I hear my name said in the room, I don't have to look around to see if the person is talking to me. I'm usually the only person in the room named Beatrice. A professor once told me that Dante was in love with a Beatrice, and he immortalized her in his Divine Comedy. I often wonder what it would be like to be immortalized in one of the greatest poems in history. Now, my name is on the cover of Yann Martel's second book. Yes, that's how I feel about it. It's my name. I have finally learned to embrace it, love it, and carry it well.

Catch Up: It's You!
I mentioned a few posts ago that my friend, Mychal, came for a visit. When he hopped into our car, this is the conversation that we had.
Mychal: Hey, it smells like crayons in here!
Me: Hmm? Crayons?
Mychal: Yea. Why? Oh! It's you!
Me: Oh...probably. The hubster says that I smell like crayons and little kids after work.
(Everyone laughs.)

Bucket List Revisited
One of my favorite questions to ask my hubster whenever we're in a car for more than hour is what's on his bucket list. It's not all that fair to put him on the spot. Of course, he turns the tables on me to buy himself some time. I start rambling about all the places to see. Then, he raises the stakes and says I can't just name dream vacations. Here are some things, I've thought of:
- Watch fireflies flicker at dusk.
- Master using my Diana.
- Try snorkeling again.
- Get my PhD.
- Write a manuscript for a children's book.
- Have the courage to start painting.

Five Fun Facts: My Childhood

- Teddy bears and dinosaurs used to be the center of my universe.
- My favorite books included the Berenstain Bears and Jesse Bear.
- I went to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle live show.
- I used to lick the sugar and butter off of the sugar butter covered buns.
- I always wanted a Teddy Ruxpin, but got a Cricket doll instead. (Check out the disappointment/disgust above.)

Continuation
In my former blog life, I had a blog at Xanga. They gave me some fancy template options but then they started to post ads on my blog unless I purchased the upgraded option. Boo! So, I fled to blogger. This blog is a continuation and possible upgrade to my previous blogging. Hope you enjoy it!
