Mo' Mochi
While in Little Tokyo, my teacher friend and I stopped by Fugetso-Do Sweet Shop. It's one of the oldest sweet shops in Los Angeles. At first glance, the shop is filled with pre-packaged goodies. A few steps away from the doorway, there is a delicious array of mochi waiting in the glass case. The mochi is made in house. I bought two pieces to take home to share with the hubster. The mochi was amazing. It was so soft and flavorful without being overly sweet. I'm looking forward to another trip to Fugetso-Do.

Panda Bread
My friend Nic was brave enough to try the panda bread recipe. For our reunion, she brought slices from her mini loaf. She thought that the panda didn't turn out too friendly, but I still think it's pretty adorable.

Nature's Candy
My hubster and I have never had beets as the centerpiece of any dish. I only have two references in my memory. One is seeing them all mushy in salads and looking like pieces of canned cranberry sauce. The other is Skeeter telling Doug that they're nature's candy. When I saw them at farmers market, I was hesitant to try them until I asked a friend how to cook them. Her recipe was simple, so I went for it. The outcome? Well, it's a texture we'll have to get used to. They definitely taste like a healthy root vegetable. They're like a cross between a carrot and potato. In theory, it sounds lovely. However, we're not quite used to it yet.

Radish Season!
Trying to expand my radish recipe repertoire beyond pickled radishes. Dying to make this sandwich.

Catch Up: Snappy
We bought some red snapper at our market. My hubster asked the meat guys what was the best way to cook it. There was a sudden debate about the easy way and the fancy creamy way. Supposedly, you have to have a taste for creaminess and fish if you want to go the fancy route. We decided to go with the classic sauteed snapper with lots of olive oil and garlic. Cook it on high and do one flip is the trick. Midway through cooking we decided to making a lemon aioli sauce and turn our snapper into open face fish sandwiches. So delish!

Whole Wheat Goodness
This doughnut is whole wheat perfection. My hubster adores these doughnuts. If we didn't tell you that they were made from whole wheat, you wouldn't have figured it out.

Foodlust: The Meatball Shop

I'm not a fan of sausages or hot dogs. However, I am totally smitten when it comes to meatballs. Maybe, it's the spherical shape and the lack of casing that makes me less skeptical. Whenever we go back to NYC, I must go to The Meatball Shop.

FOBtastic!
I'm not big on huge birthday parties. My birthday usually passes by rather quietly. Last year, my hubster and I came up with a brilliant FOB themed birthday party idea. Life overwhelmed us in October, so we celebrated my belated birthday this past weekend. We ate at our favorite Chinese restaurants and gave out red envelopes stuffed with my favorite Asian goodies as party favors. We even encouraged our friends to show up in their best FOB attire.
The best part of the evening was just being with my friends. I adore them. They are all so funny and sweet. I love how we can always pick up right where we left off even though we haven't seen each other in months.

Getting Our Mac On
I know everyone's been raving about these kinds of macaroons forever. I didn't have one until today because I thought it was just a bunch of hype. My hubster even thought they were going to be plain janes. Boy, were we wrong. They are heavenly. I adore the chewy center and subtle pistachio flavor. The chewiness reminds us of Napoleon hats. Good thing, I got two. We were not about to share.
