What is Teaching About?

Through this whole process, I've been thinking about my teaching philosophy. Very fancy, no? It's true though. I need to be able to articulate my teaching philosophy during my interviews. I've been fumbling with ideas and metaphors. Then, I stumbled across the following Buddhist medition from An Open Heart by Dalai Lama. This mediation exemplifies what teaching means to me:

So long as space remains,
So long as sentient beings remain,
I will remain,
In order to help, in order to serve,
In order to make my own contribution.
