Over the Moon

He got it! My hubster got the recognition from his HUGE company that he rightfully deserves. We're going to DC next month to attend his second award ceremony. It's like the Oscars of engineering for his company. Am I proud? That would be the understatement of the year. I am over the moon proud of him!

p.s.
He's just faux grumpy in this photo.

A to Z: Tucson

Arizona ended being full of wonderful surprises. Our first stop right after we got off the plane was at El Guero Canelo. We just had to have a Sonoran Dog sans mayo. Like my friend Mark, we are big Man v. Food fans. Whenever we can we go to one of Adam's eats. It was delish. We would recommend it without the pinto beans because they add a grainy texture that takes away from the delicious crispy bacon.

Allen's co-worker's wife, Mary, suggested Kartchner Caverns. I'm so happy that she did. It's a living cave, so you can hear the water dripping that makes the formations. We saw so many amazing formations with funny names. My favorite are cave bacon, butterscotch, soda straws, and cave cotton. One formation is taller than a 5 story building. Unfortunately, they don't let cameras inside. Boo!

The rest of our day was spent at the Pima Air and Space Museum. Acres and acres covered with planes and helicopters. Hangers housed HUGE planes such as the B-52 and the Blackbird. The space section isn't that impressive, but the aerogel almost picks up all of the slack. It's a very light insulator.

Before we went home, we went for a quick peek of Mission San Xavier del Bac. Missions are such an important part of California history. It was interesting visiting a mission outside of California. The mission's architecture is a bit of mishmash. It totally reminded me of the Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather.

A Small Moment

Today, a kiddo shared how proud she is of her dad. He can help her with homework even though the directions aren't in Spanish. He even understands it when she doesn't get it. She likes helping him practice speaking English. Her smile lit up the room as she shared all of these lovely stories. A small moment while everyone was at recess. It's hard to get these moments when there are 25 kiddos in the classroom. It was only for a few minutes, but I will cherish it for the rest of my teaching.

A to Z: Mini Post

We ran away to the desert for a mini vacay. It's so funny how easy it is to become familiar with a landscape and a road. Everything is tan in Tucson. The ground. The buildings. The overbearing hills. Cacti take the place of trees. Everything is gritty or poky.

My favorite part of the trip? Losing track of time. I didn't need to be anywhere at any particular time. All I needed to do was be with him--in that moment at that place. What a joy.
